History and the Old Testament are two topics that most people shy away from. Yet, in this study, we are diving into both as we investigate the Old Testament books of Ezra, Nehemiah, and Esther.
The books cover one of the most significant 100-year periods in history. Not only do they take place during the great conflict between the Persians and Greeks, made famous by the battles of Marathon and Thermopylae, but also during the restoration of the nation of Judah and the rebuilding of Jerusalem and the Temple after 70 years of exile. The conflict of cultures and divergent religious beliefs and practices, as well as lessons on negotiating life as an exile, are all highly relevant for today's Christian.
Far from being outdated and boring, this study of a crucial period in the history of God's people is both exciting and enlightening.
