How does someone write a letter from prison, while waiting for word if they will be executed or not, and yet fill that letter with words of joy? That is exactly what the Apostle Paul did in his letter to the Philippians. This letter is one of the most deeply personal and yet theologically rich in all the New Testament. In it, Paul gives us one of the most beautiful descriptions of Jesus as the one who, as God, came into the world becoming a man, in order to give his life in service to others.

Further, the letter is filled with words of encouragement and affection from Paul to the tiny church in Philippi. That is astounding, given the fact that Paul is the one whose life is on the line, yet he is the one encouraging the Philippians.

All of this makes this study theologically rich while also immensely applicable and inspiring.
